Domenico Di Carlo spoke ahead of Cesena’s Sunday Serie A game against Cagliari, conveying feelings of regret over the season.

Cesena are set for Serie B next season, having been unable to battle their way out of the relegation zone. In spite of it all however, the Cesena coach is adamant to go down with one last flourish.

Di Carlo expressed his pride at his team’s efforts, but considered it all bittersweet given Cesena failed to secure their Serie A survival.

“It is a game that is worth a lot to us because we play in front of our fans,” Di Carlo said in his pre-match press conference.

“Our league position is sealed and unfortunately we were unable to save ourselves [from relegation].

“It is a shame for the fans who have shown great affection and passion; the fans have been exceptional.

“I have regrets myself as we showed that Cesena could compete with everyone.

“But tomorrow [against Cagliari] we must show our pride for the Cesena shirt and fans, just as we did against Napoli.

“I aim to finish the season in the best way possible.”
