Hellas Verona striker Luca Toni is close to having his contract renewed after another impressive campaign with the Gialloblu.
The veteran striker had turned 38-years-old on Tuesday but is still a prolific scorer for Verona. Toni has scored 21 times in 37 matches, one more than Juventus striker Carlos Tevez and Inter centre-forward Mauro Icardi.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Toni will have his contract extended for another season by Gialloblu president Maurizio Setti.
The Hellas Verona president said that a deal for the Italian was very likely, and that he also wants Toni to win the leading goalscorer’s title against Juventus on Saturday.
“The renewal is only a formality. Luca is crucial for us and there should be no problems,” Setti told Gazzetta TV.
“Meanwhile, I hope he can win the top scorer’s [title]. I’m sure he can do it.”
