Extra police enforcement drafted in ahead of Lazio v Roma

Extreme measures have been taken by police in Rome ahead of the upcoming Derby della Capitale between Lazio and Roma on Monday evening.

The match is set to be one of the most intense in recent years due to the current race between the two sides to try to obtain Champions League football and the police have called upon extra enforcement to try to prevent tensions from boiling over.

Corriere Della Sera have reported that an extra 1700 bodies have been brought in to try to prevent violence breaking out between the two sets of fans, especially in the spot of Maresciallo Diaz  [along the Tiber river] where police and carabnieri will create a blockade to separate the two groups.

Furthermore, the suburb of Roma Nord will be closed to all traffic and the police are also set to remove all bins from within the vicinity of the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma are currently one point ahead of Lazio going into the match and the deciding result could determine who will obtain second place in Serie A and therefore receive an automatic place in next years Champions League.
