In the wake of their 4-0 thrashing of Parma on Monday, Cagliari coach Gianluca Festa has vowed that his squad has not given up hope of survival.

The Rossoblu were resounding victors at the Stadio Sant’Elia and the coach praised the team spirit at the squad, feeling it is a crucial element of an unlikely charge towards safety.

“The guys became aware of their possibilities and are working towards the maximum,” Festa told Sky Sport Italia.

“Today was a good performance, another step towards keeping the hope alive.”

Although written off by many, Festa did not accept that Cagliari were down and refused to criticise previous coaches Zdenek Zeman and Gianfranco Zola.

“We always go on to the field of play with this desire,” the tactician continued. “My guys are great players. I will not belittle the work of those who came before me.

“I found a team that was physically in good condition, maybe they just needed spurring on.”
