Fiorentina beat Chievo 3-0 on the final day of the Serie A season on Sunday at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

La Viola kept knocking on the door of the Gialloblu’s goal and they finally went ahead after around a quarter of an hour thanks to a Josip Ilicic shot, and while Chievo later hit the post, Fiorentina doubled their lead with a quarter of an hour remaining through Federico Bernadeschi, before Milan Badelj bagged another in the final moments.

The first chance of the game fell to Josip Ilicic, when Mohamed Salah set him up but the former lost control of the ball and the threat on the Chievo defence was gone.

It was then the away side’s turn to threaten the opposition’s defence, but shots from Cristiano Biraghi and Isaac Cofie were blocked and off target respectively, before the deadlock was finally broken after 12 minutes.

Salah once again set up the opportunity, and Ilicic took his chance well with a shot from the centre of the penalty area flying into the top right hand corner of the Chievo net, and the home side led 1-0.

Ilicic then nearly doubled his tally on the night with a shot from a free kick, but his effort went just a little too high over the crossbar.

The 27-year-old Slovenian international couldn’t stop threatening the other side’s goal, however, and over the next few minutes he had a couple of shots blocked from either side of the penalty area, and the pressure on the Mussi Volanti’s back line grew by the second.

On the half-time mark, Federico Bernadeschi had one final pop to see if Fiorentina’s lead could be doubled before the first 45 minutes were up, but his effort from a Viola counter attack went just wide of the goal.

The half-time whistle blew at one goal to nil, and the second half began in just the same manner with Fiorentina piling on the pressure on Albano Bizarri in the Chievo goal, but the new wave of danger from the Viola squad ended with Alberto Gilardino getting caught offside.

The biggest chance for the Flying Donkeys so far came on the 55 minute mark, when Ciprian Tatarusanu made a fantastic save in between the home team’s sticks from a Ruben Botta shot, and the defence fought hard straight afterwards to make sure there was no rebound goal and the purple clean sheet stayed in tact.

The Chievo faithful supporters were nearly cheering again on the hour mark when Sergio Pellissier smashed his shot against the post.

Fiorentina all but secured victory with 15 minutes left on the clock, however, when Federico Bernadeschi doubled La Viola’s goal tally after Bizarri parried an earlier effort and the 21-year-old slotted home.

Pellissier then had another perfect chance to halve the deficit, but his shot went wide and it ended a fairly miserable night for the Chievo supporters.

Then in the 93rs minute Badelj bagged the Viola’s final goal of the 2014/15 Serie A season.
