Fiorentina defeated Parma 3-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Monday evening in Serie A.

Gonzalo Rodriguez and Alberto Gilardino both scored from first-half set-pieces before Mohamed Salah added a third as the Viola moved closer to securing Europa League qualification for next season.

Parma forward Raffaele Palladino almost opened the scoring for a second successive Serie A game after his first goal since December 7 last Sunday in the 2-2 draw against Napoli.

Although the former Italy international poked his shot wide across goal inside the opening five minutes as he stretched to make contact with a low Antonio Nocerino cross from the left side of the penalty box.

No other side has conceded more first-half goals than the Crociati this season with 36 in total going into the game, and they went behind once again when a Josip Ilicic free-kick from the left side was cleared into the air by Alessandro Lucarelli.

The Fiorentina captain beat the Parma skipper to the resultant ball in the air to become joint top-scorer along Khouma Babacar for the Tuscan side in Serie A this season with seven.

Fiorentina continued to put pressure on the Parma goal with David Pizarro, Salah and Ilicic all failing to find the target from outside the box before left back Manuel Pasqual forced Antonio Mirante into a spectacular reflex save at his near post.

Palladino forced Neto into his first save of the evening at his near post with a first-time attempt after another low cross from the left side of the box this time by Massimo Gobbi, but Fiorentina scored a second goal just a minute later from another set-piece.

Former Parma forward Gilardino scored his third goal since arriving on-loan from Guangzhou Evergrande in January and his 177th in Serie A with a glancing header at the near post from an in swinging Matias Fernandez corner.

Gilardino could have scored again just before half-time, but he missed the target sliding in from six yards after Ilicic got in behind the Parma back four and cut the ball across goal.

Palladino again had the first opportunity of note after the break for relegated Parma with his shot from the edge of the box taking a deflection off Stefan Savic for corner.

However, it was the hosts that scored again on 56 minutes as Salah went past Cristobal Jorquera and guided the ball into the bottom far corner with a right-footed shot.

Abdelkader Ghezzal was denied a first Parma goal as he raced onto a Jorquera ball that Savic misjudged, but the leg of Neto blocked his shot from a narrow angle on the right side of the box.

Slovakia Under-21 international Lukas Haraslin replaced Ghezzal minutes later with the Parma Primavera player making just his second Serie A appearance as a substitute, while Jeremy Broh made his first-team debut.

Croatian central defender Ricardo Bagadur also made his Fiorentina debut before another substitute in Alessandro Diamanti nearly scored a fourth with a curling shot that was tipped onto the crossbar.

Gilardino thought he had scored his second in additional time, but was his near post flick was ruled out for offside.
