Mario Gomez FiorentinaFiorentina forward Mario Gomez could be set to leave the club this summer for a return to the Bundesliga with Schalke.

The German was presented to 25,000 fans at the Stadio Artemio Franchi following his near €16 million move from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2013, but has since suffered from long term injury and criticism over his form.

La Nazione reports that Schalke are interested in signing the 29-year-old this summer and sent a scout to watch him against Parma on Monday evening.

However, the Florence-based daily newspaper notes that the observer did not get to see Gomez in action, as he was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win.

The former Stuttgart striker, who has a contract with the Tuscan side until June 2017, has also recently been linked with a move to Roma.

Gomez has seven career goals in Serie A with his most recent strikes in the league coming in a 2-2 draw at Udinese on March 22 when he scored a brace.
