Serie A side Fiorentina have begun making preparations for their summer transfer campaign which includes trying to tempt AC Milan’s Ignazio Abate to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Rossoneri right-back skippered the side in the recent Milan derby but has yet to have his contract renewed, a deal which is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

According to La Nazione, the Viola will try and take advantage of the delay by offering the Italy international a new opportunity away from the Stadio Meazza. He could also be joined by Genoa’s Sebastian De Maio and Bayer Leverkusen’s Giulio Donati, as the Florence-based outfit look to redesign their defence.

However, nothing will be rubber-stamped until the future of coach Vincenzo Montella has been resolved, with many rumours linking the tactician with a switch to Abate’s AC Milan.

The ex-Catania boss is set to have a meeting with Fiorentina owner Andrea Della Valle once the current season is over to discuss whether or not he will remain at the helm of the side.
