Fiorentina will return loanee Alessandro Diamanti to parent club Guangzhou Evergrande, while the Viola are set to hold on to Alberto Gilardino.

The former Italian internationals, both 32, will take separate paths having played together for the Chinese champions before joining Vincenzo Montella’s side in January on loan.

Now, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Diamanti will re-join the Guangdong outfit as a record of two goals in 11 appearances has deemed the attacking midfielder surplus to requirements at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Meanwhile, World Cup winner Gilardino is expected to be redeemed by the Tuscans, with nominal a buy-out clause available to keep the striker, who is labelled as a solid squad player.

Gilardino has scored three goals in 12 appearances for the fifth-placed side, including a well-timed header in Monday’s 3-0 win over relegated Parma.
