Former AC Milan and Fiorentina midfielder Rui Costa has ruled out a return to Serie A in any form.

He retired from the professional game in 2008 while at Benfica, where he subsequently proceeded to take over as the club’s sporting director, and has enjoyed success with the Portuguese side ever since, including winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga in the last two seasons, which has caused him to be linked to returns to Serie A in either a coaching or managerial role with Milan or La Viola.

“I haven’t heard anything about leaving Benfica,” the 43-year-old told Record.

“I am happy to remain here and celebrate with our fans,” he added, regarding the club’s recent league triumph.

Costa had a 12 year spell in Italy, first at Fiorentina before he moved to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, appearing 339 times overall with 42 goals.
