Former Italy international Gennaro Gattuso has ruled out a coaching role in Russia.

The 2006 World Cup winner, who has previously been the boss of Palermo and Crete, was linked with a move to Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, and this speculation grew even stronger when the Italian was in Russia recently at the club’s training sessions, but he said that this was no rare event.

“I often go around the world to look at other sides while they work, and I was in Russia for a week of exploring,” the 37-year-old told Sky Italia.

“I saw the working methods of the Russian teams.”

The former Rangers and AC Milan midfielder acknowledged the fact that he went to see the Russian side, currently coached by Sergei Tashuyev, but ruled out any chance of taking over from him.

“I went to see how Anzhi train but I haven’t spoken to any manager.”
