After a frustrating 1-0 home defeat to Udinese in which his side received two red cards, Hellas Verona coach Andrea Mandorlini has criticised the standard of officiating during the match.

The 55-year-old tactician has pinpointed that his side have now received three red cards in their last two matches and he believes that these decisions have influenced Verona’s results.

“Refereeing is part the game and the officials are certainly putting us to the test,” said Mandorlini in his post-match press conference.

“Last Sunday [against Sampdoria] we played with ten men and today we had nine. I hope that it is finished here because to play with eight would be even more difficult.

He continued: “The match was decided by the refereeing decisions, it was a close match and I believe that the officials had a bad day.

“I think that the sending-off decisions were especially harsh but the referees make errors like players and coaches do.

“Today the referee has made mistakes and we must accept that.”

Verona now slip to one point behind Chievo ahead of the derby between the two sides next weekend.
