Both Inter and Roma will find out on Tuesday the extent of the sanctions they are set to face as a punishment for breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

The FFP rules were introduced by the European governing body in 2011 in an attempt to curb reckless spending by clubs and to promote financial responsibility.

It has been known for some time that both Italian clubs were under investigation for alleged indiscretions, and now La Repubblica reports that judgments are expected this week with both the Nerazzurri and Giallorossi expected to be severely punished.

It is believed that Inter face a fine of between €6-8 million and will have the size of their continental squad cut from 25 to 21 players for the next time they qualify for European competition. Furthermore, the Milanese giants will have their transfer market spending curbed considerably and will be unable to spend above their income.

Roma are also expected to be fined, but perhaps more seriously they are also set to be denied the revenue from their continental exploits in both the Champions League and Europa League this season.

UEFA has sanctioned clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the past, but this is the first time that Italian sides have fallen foul of FFP.
