Inter striker Mauro Icardi has stated his belief that the Nerazzurri deserve more than their mediocre Serie A season so far.

The Argentine forward has had a good season for the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side on a personal level, but the team’s performances and results have left a lot to be desired for the majority of the campaign.

Speaking to Canal Plus Espana, Icardi said that though he was happy with his own performances, he was not so pleased with the season for the team as a whole, and that they had not quite achieved what they deserved.

“I have had a great season,” the 22-year-old began.

“But Inter are in a position that they do not deserve,” he asserted.

“The club is in a time of transition, we hope that next year we can be back to competing at the top again.”

The capocannoniere hopeful has been linked with moves away from the Nerazzurri for the majority of the season, and he did go on to comment that he would like to return to his native country before his playing days are finished.

“I’m a fan of Newell’s Old Boys,” he revealed.

“One day I would like to play in the Argentine Championship.”

Icardi has 20 goals in Serie A for Inter this season in the race to be crowned capocannoniere, just one behind current top goalscorer Luca Toni.
