AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi has praised club president Silvio Berlusconi ahead of his side’s meeting with Napoli on Sunday.

The longtime president was reportedly set to sell the club to Thai investor Bee Teachaubol, however it was later announced that Berlusconi could keep the majority of the shares in the club, and Inzaghi stated that the current president will take the best decision for the Rossoneri.

“There is nothing official yet,” Inzaghi said. “I’m used to [Silvio] Berlusconi’s presidency and I will continue to think that Milan is under his leadership.

“We want the good of the club, and I am confident that any decision Berlusconi takes will be for the club’s benefit.”

The former striker then shifted his focus towards Sunday’s game at the Stadio San Paolo, stating that his side are still in the race for the Europa League, despite sitting eight points adrift of the final European position.

“As long as we’re mathematically in it, we’ll continue to fight for Europe,” he said. “We have two upcoming games that are really difficult, and we want to overcome our complicated situation with a win at the [Stadio] San Paolo.

“They are a great team that create many goalscoring opportunities, it will be a very difficult game because we’re also playing away from home – we expect a fierce Napoli side.

“Milan will return one day, many other sides have gone through dark periods. I will give everything, I’m trying to treat the game as if it is a Champions League final.

“I only had this morning to prepare for the game, but [Mattia] De Sciglio will play on the right, and [Andrea] Poli will return after being rested. [Giacomo] Bonaventura may play a little more up the pitch, but I am yet to evaluate the situation.

“[Keisuke] Honda is also fine, he could start tomorrow.

“All I can say though is that I need someone fresh, we also have three players from the Primavera who are really good, but they can’t be played at a time when we’re struggling.”

Inzaghi also expressed his disappointment at not being able to repay Berlusconi and vice-president [Adriano] Galliani’s faith in him, in addition to commenting on Jeremy Menez’s sending off in Wednesday’s defeat to Genoa, which resulted in him receiving a four-match ban for insulting the officials.

“I’m disappointed at not repaying Berlusconi and Galliani’s faith in me, because they gave me a lot of confidence,” he started.

“I always give 100%, and I’d like to stay here for another year and a half.

“We mustn’t think about any corporate actions though, it is not an excuse to play poorly. What we must do is thank the president who is trying to bring back the great Milan.

“Menez’s reaction after getting sent off? He received two bookings that were somehow harsh, however he made a mistake and he has to pay for his actions.”
