Sansone - Sassuolo v VeronaItaly’s Antonio Conte is expected to call up some new faces to the Italian national team as he prepares for an impending squad get-together.

The Azzurri coach is considering new players who have performed well this season, which include Nicola Sansone, Riccardo Saponara and Daniel Caligiuri, while Mirko Valdifiori is expected to return following his debut against England in March 2015.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Sassuolo’s Sansone, despite being born in Germany, will be called up after his appearances for the Azzurri at all youth levels, while Wolfsburg’s Daniel Caligiuri is expected to get the nod despite not representing Italy before.

Lorenzo Insigne and Emanuele Giaccherini are also set to make a return when the team trains in Coverciano, ahead of their European Championship qualifier against Croatia on June 12 and the international friendly with Portugal on June 16.

This could be great news for two reasons: a) Sansone offers pace & trickery, something that we’ve lacked for some time. He is a constant pest for the opposition. b) this could see Conte finally trying out a different system instead of the same old & very predictable 352. We have the players now to go with an effective 433, 4312, 4231 etc.

  2. Totally agree with your second point. Not so much with your Sansone point. It’s definitely time to ditch the 3-5-2. Our pieces don’t fit well in that system. The midfield can’t seem to link up with the strikers. As far as Sansone goes, I just think he’s waaaaaaaay down in the pecking order to get a call up.

Lorenzo Insigne and Emanuele Giaccherini are back in…..Yes Thank you I will take that.
I just wish we can find the right combination up front. Am I being to hopeful for the return of Pep Rossi?
