After suffering a tough 2-0 defeat to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, Genoa defender Armando Izzo didn’t expect the Giallorossi to play as they did.

The defeat sees Roma take back second place from Lazio and Genoa lose the Europa League qualification spot after Fiorentina trumped Cesena 3-1 on the day.

“We made good preparations, but we played at par with Rome in a balanced game,” said Izzo to Sky Sport Italia following the match.

“We wanted to do more, but they’ve found the goals and we’ve lost. Our attackers always do great job for the team and they should be congratulated for making the difference so often.”

The 23-year-old then gave due credit to Roma’s resurgence and the impressive form of Alessandro Florenzi.

“I honestly did not expect Roma to perform like this,” he said. “They have regained form and conviction. Florenzi’s goals are a sign of a good season, I congratulate him.”
