Lichtsteiner - JuventusJuventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner is set to undergo ankle surgery following the Champions League final against Barcelona.

The club have adopted a pragmatic approach involving day-to-day management of the injury in order to maintain the Swiss defender’s match-fitness, but must now accept the inevitable in booking the post-season procedure.

According to Tuttosport, the 31-year-old has been suffering with pain and inflammation in his left ankle for sometime, meaning a cleaning out of the troublesome area has finally become necessary. They state an operation to solve the problem will take place around mid-June, after further examinations have been undertaken by specialists.

Lichtsteiner has been in fine form for the Serie A and Coppa Italia double winners, while making 47 appearances in all competitions so far this term.

However, he may not be risked during Saturday’s away league fixture at Hellas Verona in an effort to ensure his availability for June 6 in Berlin.
