Paolo MaldiniFormer AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini is hopeful that the club’s potiential new investors can inject some cash into the ailing club.

Speaking prior to the kick off of Javier Zanetti’s Match for Expo game, the Rossoneri legend hoped new investment would turn the team’s form around.

“I will not play due to injury,” Maldini said, “but it’s always nice to be back at the San Siro, especially given it’s a tribute to Zanetti and we’re able to raise funds. It’s a wonderful initiative and Zanetti was always a tough opponent, a real example.”

The former defender then discussed his former club’s result this season and how he thought they could improve.

” There is not much to say,” the 46-year-old continued. “These are the results and it is a really bad season. If investors can put in some money, it is definitely a good idea.”

The Milan legend has been linked to return to the club in a management position following the potential change of ownership.

“I am fan of AC Milan whatever happens, I just hope for good things,” Maldini said. “I hope that the president stays and that is able to bring AC Milan at the top.”

Maldini made over 600 appearances for Milan during his time at the club and currently has two sons in the club’s youth sides.
