Marotta - JuventusJuventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta says the club is back among the elite and wants to consolidate that position.

The Old Lady won their 31st Scudetto at the weekend and have the chance to reach the Champions League final after defeating Real Madrid 2-1 in Turin in their semi-final first-leg.

Marotta told Mediaset that this was the result of all the hard work at the club over the past five years.

“Juve have proved we are back,” said the 58-year-old.

“We started this process back in 2010 when Andrea Agnelli as president opened the door that allowed us to be competitive again in Italy.

“The second goal was to return to the upper echelons of European football, and we have achieved that objective as well.”

Marotta also made clear Juventus’ desire to extend Massimiliano Allegri’s stay on the Bianconeri bench after a successful first season in charge.

“Allegri has proven to be a humble, capable and intelligent coach,” said the former Sampdoria sporting director.

“So far he has won the Scudetto, taken us into the Coppa Italia final with a chance of also qualifying for the Champions League final.

“He has done an amazing job and an extension [of his contract] will be a formality; but we will wait until after the important matches still to come.”

Marotta is already looking ahead to next season and strengthening Juventus’ attack, while holding on to the Old Lady’s current star player.

“Our objective is to not weaken the team, but to strengthen it while remaining financially responsible,” said Marotta.

“[Paul] Pogba is a key element of this group and, for that reason, is not for sale.

“[Paulo] Dybala and [Edison] Cavani are two important players that I can say that we are interested in.”
