mattia de sciglioAC Milan defender Mattia De Sciglio’s red card against Napoli has set a new record.

The 22-year-old defender conceded a penalty after 42 seconds in the match, which led to referee Paolo Mazzoleni dismissing the Italian international, and it was the fastest dismissal in the history of the Italian top flight.

The previous record holder was Belgian international Luis Oliveira, who got sent off after 50 seconds in 1999 while playing for Fiorentina.

Gonzalo Higuain went on to miss the penalty in the game on Sunday night, but the Partenopei eventually ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a goal from the Argentina international, along with contributions from Marek Hamsik and Manolo Gabbiadini.

The sending off only adds to Milan’s ever growing list of problems, as the defeat on Sunday means they drop into the bottom half of the Serie A table.
