Lazio captain Stefano Mauri has revealed that the team’s main goal is to remain in the top three in order to secure a place in the Champions League for next season.

The Biancocelesti have been in a battle with rivals Roma for second place as of late, though they currently sit in third just one point behind the Giallorossi with 63 points, and the 35-year-old insists that he and his team-mates will give their all in these final four games of the campaign to earn an opportunity to play in Europe’s most prestigious tournament.

Mauri spoke to Rai Uno about Lazio’s impressive run this season and commented on their hunger for a Champions League spot.

“We are doing very well, it has been an incredible season,” said the Italian, who has scored nine goals and provided two assists in his 26 Serie A appearances this term thus far.

“There are four games left and we have to earn a spot in the Champions League.

“Will we finish in second or third? We’ll see what happens when the season is over.”
