Roma centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was in a celebratory mood after scoring the match winner in the 2-1 victory over Lazio in the Derby della Capitale on Monday.

Juan Iturbe opened the scoring for the Giallorossi in the second half, before Lazio substitute Filip Djordjevic equalized with ten minutes remaining. However, the game was decided four minutes later when Mbiwa latched onto a header to score from a Miralem Pjanic set piece.

“Against Lazio it is always a big derby,” said the defender to Sky Sport Italia.

“They are a great team with great players and it was hard game but we worked all week and today we played really well.”

The win guarantees Roma second place in Serie A whilst ensuring direct passage into next season’s Champions League.

“I will remember this goal forever,” he continued. ” My teammates told me that I am part of Roma history now.”

Roma’s last game of the season is a home game against Palermo on Sunday.
