Despite reportedly agreeing to replace outgoing Napoli coach Rafael Benitez at the end of the season, Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic expects his players to approach their match with Parma on Sunday night with the right attitude.

The 46-year-old also praised opposite number Roberto Donadoni for the way in which he and his Gialloblu players have conducted themselves during a season surrounded by the tension of financial restrictions at the club.

“Tomorrow I expect my team to take the field with the right attitude,” Mihajlovic told the Press conference.

“I want a victory to end the season in the best way possible.

“I also want to congratulate to Donadoni and Parma, who have honoured the season and their championship. We must not underestimate them.

“Genoa clearly deserve the Europa League for what they did on the pitch, but if they do not then we would enter, and deserve it as much as anyone.

“We have had a good season, but we have not reached a place through the cups I’ll take the blame.

“I do not think, however, that it is a failed season. Physically we are fine, the data says so.

“I do not know how I will be greeted by the fans, but it is not a problem. Regardless of everything, I am Sampdoria.

“My successor depends on the club, it is not for me to decide. [Empoli coach Maurizio] Sarri is a very good coach.

“I do not know if this has been my best year. I did better than my predecessor, those who follow me usually do worse.”
