Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has stated that his side must be at 110 per cent if they want to defeat Empoli on Sunday at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

The Blucerchiati are two points behind city-rivals Genoa in the race for the Europa League, and the Serbian has made it clear that his side always do their best.

“I want to say three things: firstly, we mustn’t forget what we’ve done this season,” said Mihajlovic. “We’re still playing for a Europa League position; we lacked the necessary attitude in only two or three games.

“However, we’ve always done our utmost to prepare for games.

“Secondly, I have to take criticism because unfortunately our performances have fell in recent weeks, I must take full responsibility. We commit too many mistakes in the build-up.

“Lastly, the calendar has not helped us at all, we faced big sides at times when we couldn’t afford to lose. I never speak about referees, and I won’t do it now.

“I know both Empoli and [coach Maurizio] Sarri, and I know they’ll do their best, and if we want to win we have to be at 110 per cent. We’re aiming to reach Europe, so we’ll be more motivated.

“The outcome of the game tomorrow is down to us.”
