Roma have reportedly received an offer from Major League Soccer side New York City FC for out of favour defender Ashley Cole.

The former England international has featured in only 11 Serie A fixtures for the Giallorossi so far this season, and speculation about his future at the club had been rife until the approach from NYCFC.

Roma director of football Walter Sabatini held a meeting with Cole’s agent on Monday afternoon, with the intention of discussing  the offer and establishing whether or not the player wants to move on from a difficult spell in Italy, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The 34-year-old’s contract with Rudi Garcia’s outfit expires in 13 months’ time, but this commitment is not believed to be an obstacle in the negotiations between the two clubs.

Cole amassed 107 caps for England during his international career, and at club level won 16 major honours with previous suitors Arsenal and Chelsea.
