Vicenzo Montella FiorentinaFiorentina’s impressive domestic and European displays this season has turned other clubs’ attention toward Vincenzo Montella, but the coach’s eventual departure from the Stadio Artemio Franchi  is reportedly more easily said than done.

The 40-year old has a contract with the Viola until June 2017 and if any club was to sign him this summer, it would cost them 5 million.

Although he was linked to Napoli, Roma, and AC Milan in April, Il Corriere Fiorentino reported Sunday that so far no club has approached the Viola who are prepared to pay the buy-out clause. If this does not change, the only other option which would allow him to seek a new coaching adventure would be resignation from his current position.

If the former Roma attacker, who has thus far poured cold water on all rumours linking him to a departure from Florence, was to make such request, it would go directly to the club’s president Andrea Della Valle, who has the right to refuse.

Next weekend Montella will complete his third season in charge, a stint that is highlighted by a Coppa Italia final appearance (2014), a semi-final of the Europa League (2015), and two fourth-place Serie A finishes (2013 and 2014).
