Fiorentina coach Vicenzo Montella spoke ahead of La Viola’s Sunday Serie A clash against Palermo, but focused more on assessing the team’s season.

Fiorentina are currently fifth in Serie A, with Genoa as their closest rivals for the automatic Europa League qualifying spot.

Montella expressed his satisfaction at Fiorentina’s season after having had to battle on three fronts, as well as he touched on his future which had seen him linked with Sampdoria.

“We feel good [about our season] and want to secure fifth place in order to gain direct access into the Europa League,” Montella said in his pre-match press conference.

“We tried to compete on three fronts and, until the very end, we almost succeeded. I think Fiorentina have had a positive season.

“It is premature to talk about my future at this moment however. [On Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero] I have known him for a long time and we sometimes have dinner together.

“It is all as friends however; there have been no professional contacts made between myself and Ferrero.”
