Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella was pleased to see his Viola side pick up a key 3-2 victory over Palermo on Sunday, but the tactician remained coy over his future with the club amidst reports he is set to leave at the end of the season.

A late Marcos Alonso was enough to secure the Gigliati a place in next season’s Europa League, and Montella believes it was the right result in what was an entertaining encounter at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

“A victory in which we suffered, but at this point of the season teams are tired but I believe we deserved a key victory which makes us happy with regards to the standings,” Montella told Radio1 after the match.

“Today I saw a lot of people in the stands with a lot of fair play and a lot of desire on the field but this is sport. I think it was a great day of football.

“The goal that was called back? I tried to ask about it. They told me the referee and the fourth official saw a foul but did not remember which player committed it. It can happen.”

With reports growing that Montella is set to depart the Viola at the end of the campaign, the tactician stated nothing has been decided ahead of talks later this week.

“I’ve answered many times on this, we will see in the coming days. Their is a lot of cordiality with the club. We will sit down and do what is best for Fiorentina.”
