Gonzalo Higuain NapoliNapoli striker Gonzalo Higuain could be set for a move back to Spain, after registering his dissatisfaction at the club’s performances this season.

The Partenopei saw their Champions League qualifications all but completely ruined against Juventus on Friday night, and face a long summer ahead if reports linking their star attacker elsewhere are to be believed.

According to GianlucaDiMarzio, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are ready to offer an escape route to the Argentine, with the lure of working under national compatriot Diego Simeone believed to be significant.

However, it is acknowledged that last season’s La Liga champions have a lot of work to do to convince Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to cash in on his side’s key goalscoring threat.

27-year-old Higuain enjoyed a fruitful six-year stay at Atletico’s fierce rivals, Real Madrid, prior to his move to Naples, where he won six club honours.

Higuain has since scored 33 Serie A goals in a Neapolitan shirt, from 68 appearances.
