Palermo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino has been ruled out for the Rosanero’s league match against Atalanta on Sunday after suffering a minor injury in an automobile accident.

The Italian shot-stopper was travelling in the Sicilian capital during heavy traffic in his Porsche and collided into a wall dividing two carriageways.

The 36-year-old was immediately transported by an ambulance to the local hospital, to discover an injury to his right hand as well as several cuts and bruises.

Fortunately he suffered no severe injuries, but the damage to his hand will keep Sorrentino out of action for seven days, which means he will miss his side’s upcoming match at home to Atalanta on May 10.

Sorrentino is expected to be available for the following fixture against Cagliari.

Sorrentino joined Palermo at the beginning of 2013 and has become a key figure for the Sicilian club, starting in over 80 matches.
