Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo has called on his side to continue showing their fighting spirit or risk missing out on Europa League qualification altogether this season.

The Blucerchiati are without a win in their last six Serie A matches after a 1-0 loss to Juventus at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening.

“We have give so much this season, but unfortunately we are going through a difficult period,” the 33-year-old told reporters in the mixed-zone after the match.

“We are sorry for the supporters, but we should not feel sorry for ourselves.

“We have to stay focused and in our next matches we must not go wrong.

“Otherwise we risk throwing away the dream that we had set ourselves a few months ago.

“We will fight tooth and nail until the end to maintain our position.

“We knew that there were other teams behind us that have closed the gap with a sequence of positive results.

“We still have about ourselves, because when you do not win for six games it is normal that the gap will be reduced.”
