Lazio coach Stefano Pioli has said he wanted to claim victory over Atalanta, but was happy they weren’t beaten.

The Biancocelesti drew 1-1 away to La Dea on Sunday afternoon in Serie A, and came back from a goal down to share the points, but Pioli said that he had a target of winning the game beforehand.

“We wanted to win the game,” the 49-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were against an aggressive side who made it very difficult, but we played with great character.”

Despite only getting one point out of a possible three, the Italian coach said he is pleased that they didn’t lose the match, and that the team are happy with the way they played.

“It is an important point, we didn’t want to lose the game so we go home with a positive result.”

The result means Lazio drop to third in the league table, after Roma won earlier in the day.
