Hellas Verona goalkeeper Rafael has confirmed the side’s pleasure at finishing the season with a draw against champions Juventus.

An enthralling encounter at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentigodi finished 2-2, with highlights for the home side being Luca Toni all but becoming the oldest ever Serie A top goalscorer, while Rafael saved a penalty from Juventus marksman Carlos Tevez.

“Today I am very happy as I was able to help my teammates,” the Brazilian reflected to Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a difficult season but we were able to reach safety.

“Luca Toni breaking the record is important for me, and I am happy to have helped him. We are all happy to have stopped the champions of Italy, who are one of the strongest clubs in Europe.”

The 33-year-old also took the time to evaluate his season on a personal level, continuing: “There were these two games in which I was angry with myself because I could have done more, but today I was able to help my teammates, although the credit must go to all.”

After completing their final fixture of the season, Verona’s highest possible finish is now 12th, a slight regression from their 10th placed finish last term.
