Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was in regretful mood after his side lost 2-1 to Juventus in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday night.

Alvaro Morata put Juventus ahead with an early tap in before Cristiano Ronaldo levelled matters just short of the half hour with a point blank header. In the second half Carlos Tevez scored the winning goal for the Bianconeri from the spot.

Ancelotti was philosophical in defeat but left wondering what might have been in a match which saw Los Blancos occupy Juventus’ half for long spells. He told Sky Sport Italia: “We weren’t that bad in the second half, there was no confusion.

“We found things a little difficult but there were periods of the game in which we were very good, and sometimes not.”

Juventus took the lead courtesy of a penalty earned and scored by Tevez after he had been brought down on a breakaway by Daniel Carvajal.

“The penalty and the goal were unfortunate.

“We pressed on Pirlo because didn’t want things to open up in midfield as we had at the start with Tevez which caused us problems.

“It was the Juventus I had expected – determined and organised.

“The game was even and beautiful in some aspects, but the return leg will see a patient Real.”
