Atalanta coach Edoardo Reja believes La Dea put in a great performance after claiming an important draw against high flying Lazio on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri drew 1-1 at home to the Biancocelesti, and despite taking the lead they couldn’t hold on for the three points, which Reja said came from a their opponents being a tough tactical side to play against.

“We caused Lazio trouble in the first half,” the 69-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

“We surprised them by putting pressure on [Danilo] Cataldi and [Marco] Parolo. The players did great, they played a great match and had chances to put it away.

“We were playing against a fantastic opponent. It was difficult to maintain the same level of play for 90 minutes but we did well and claimed an important point.”

The result means that Atalanta remain 17th in the Serie A table, one place above the relegation zone, but despite them being eight points ahead of 18th placed Cagliari, Reja sill warned that Atalanta aren’t safe yet.

“We are not yet safe, Cagliari have easier games coming up than us, but we cannot give up.”
