Federico Balzaretti will take up the role of team manager at Roma, following a vote by the Giallorossi squad and staff as the Italian looks towards the end of his playing career.

The 33-year-old has recently seen his footballing prospects put in turmoil by a hernia injury that has prevented him from appearing for the Lupi in 2014/15, after 11 outings in the previous campaign.

With current team manager Salvatore Scaglia appearing to be leaving, Il Messaggero report that the left-back has been voted into the role with his impact in the dressing room still highly important to Roma, despite his inability to play for Rudi Garcia’s side.

The former Italian international joined Roma in 2012 after being a consistent fixture in the Azzurri’s Euro 2012 starting line-up, having started his career at Torino and playing for Juventus and Palermo.
