Out-of-favour Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero is a summer transfer target for fellow Serie A side Roma.

The 28-year-old has been forced to play a supporting role to Emiliano Viviano between the sticks at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this term and could be set to move on for free when his contract ends in June.

According to Il Messaggero, the Giallorossi have Romero under consideration having shown an interest in the player prior to his switch to Samp from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2011.

Monaco took him on loan for the 2013-14 campaign, but the Monte Carlo-based outfit subsequently decided against the permanent signing of the Argentine stopper after he failed to make any impression.

He then featured as first-choice ‘keeper during the 2014 World Cup for his country as they reached the final, only to quickly resume back-up status with the Blucerchiati when making just 10 Serie A appearances so far this season.
