Sampdoria are looking at a new coach for next season and former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga as well as Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri are candidates to potentially succeed Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The current Doria coach has been with the Blucerchiati since November 2013 and is expected to replace Rafa Benitez as coach of Napoli for the 2015-16 campaign.

According to Gazzetta TV, Sampdoria have contacted Sarri by phone but Zenga seems to be favoured candidate for the time being.

Zenga played for the Doriani for two seasons from 1994 until 1996 after an illustrious career with Inter which spanned 12 years. He coached Catania in the 2008-09 Serie A season and he had a spell as Palermo coach in 2009 before he was replaced by Delio Rossi.

The former Inter star has been coaching in the Middle East for the last five years, with his latest job being with UAE club Al-Jazira.

Sarri, on the other hand, has been Empoli’s coach since 2012 and he has managed to achieve Serie A survival this season with mostly youngsters and unknowns in his squad.
