Empoli midfielder Riccardo Saponara has revealed that he’s proud to have achieved Serie A salvation with his team after their 1-0 win over Torino on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old, who’s currently on loan at the Azzurri from AC Milan since January, admits that he’s thankful for the opportunity to represent the club for the second half of the season and confirms that he’s not sure if he’ll be returning to the Rossoneri at the end of the campaign.

Saponara spoke to Mediaset Premium following the victory against Torino about his excitement regarding the result, while also commenting on his future and his dreams of playing in Italy’s senior national team.

“I came back here to play after a difficult period in my career at Milan,” said the former Italy U-21 international, who previously played for Empoli from 2009-13 before arriving at the Diavolo.

“I want to thank Empoli for giving me the opportunity to play more. Today has been a great satisfaction for us, salvation is the greatest achievement for this team.

“Will I go back to Milan this summer? I don’t know my future, I have to see what the two clubs wish to do.

“I’ll continue waiting to find out, but for now I am still fully focused on finishing the season with Empoli.

“The national team? It’s always been a dream of mine to play for the senior team. I hope I can get a call up in the future.”
