Maurizio Sarri was happy with Empoli’s performance, despite only managing a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria.

Manuel Pucciarelli’s fourth goal of the season gave Empoli a well earned lead in the second half, but Samuel Eto’o levelled on the 90th minute.

“I am happy with the team’s response after the poor game against [Hellas] Verona,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“The performance was excellent and we put Sampdoria in a lot of trouble, but we didn’t close the game out and were exposed in the final moments.

“What interested me most was the response of the team.

“We are sorry about the result, but I am pleased with what I saw.

Sarri then addressed rumours regarding his future, and insisted he would be happy to stay at the Stadio Castellani.

“I have a contract with Empoli,” the tactician began, “and I am not in a hurry to leave.

“Today, the songs from the fans towards me, really moved me.”
