Roma captain Francesco Totti admits that the capital city club will have to work hard and bring in a few great players in order to compete with Juventus for the Scudetto next season.

The Giallorossi have had a very rocky run during the 2014-15 campaign despite a second place finish and the 38-year-old understands that some things will have to change this summer if the Stadio Olimpico outfit wants to do better in both the Champions League and the Serie A during the 2015-16 term.

Totti spoke to the Corriere dello Sport about Roma’s need to improve in the coming months and the trust they must have in sporting director Walter Sabatini, while also commenting on his future at the club.

“I hope this transfer market will be good for us so we can be on the same level as Juventus,” said the Lupi legend.

“We have to have trust in the work of Sabatini. Right now Juventus are stronger than us and they have shown it in the Champions League.

“All of us, the players and the coaches, everyone, must now work together to shorten the gap in quality.

“Juventus? I never said that they didn’t deserve to win the Scudetto, some of the things I said were taken wrong while we were still competing with them.

“They deserved it this season because we haven’t been as good as we should have been.

“My future? It’s still too early to talk about it. I don’t know when I’ll be ready to quit, even though I’m aware it will happen sooner or later. We’ll see what happens.

“Our objectives? We’ll go for second place again, it’s our minimum goal but it’s not always granted that we’ll earn it.”
