AC Milan have made their first signing of the summer transfer window by snapping up promising young defender Rodrigo Ely, with the Brazilian joining the club for a second stint.

The youngster was originally signed by the Rossoneri in 2012 but left the club two years later without making a senior appearance. After loan spells at Reggina and Varese, Ely joined Avellino on a permanent deal in 2014 where his performances in Serie B caught the attention of his former club, with Milan stepping in to bring him back to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

Following the expiration of his contract with Avellino, Calciomercato has reported that Ely has signed a deal with Milan that will run until June 30 2019.

Despite only being 21, the former Gremio youth player will be determined to break into new coach Sinisa Mihajlovic’s first team squad. Ely will be hoping to help his new team build on a disappointing 2014/15 season, as Milan finished in 10th place in the Serie A standings.
