Andujar and Higuain attacked by Napoli fans after Lazio defeat

Higuain - NapoliNapoli players Mariano Andujar and Gonzalo Higuain were attacked in their cars following the defeat to Lazio on Sunday evening.

The Partenopei lost the match at the Stadio San Paolo 4-2, with Higuain missing a 76th minute penalty which would have put Napoli into the Champions League.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, fans were angry with the result which left Napoli in fifth place in Serie A and attacked as they looked to return home after from the stadium after the game.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had laid on some refreshments after the match for players and staff, and it is reported that as both left in Andujar’s car it was set upon not far from the San Paolo.

It was kicked, spat at and punched by around 15 supporters, who also struck the vehicle with an iron bar at the intersection of via Claudio and via Terracina. Meanwhile Higuain’s brother and mother were following the pair in a taxi.

The group are said to have encircled the car and repeatedly hit it, breaking Andujar’s windshield, though thankfully no one was hurt following the attack after the taxi driver quickly sped off with the Argentine goalkeeper following suit.
