As Roma look for a new goalkeeper to challenge veteran Morgan De Sanctis, departing Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero has emerged as a key target for the Lupi.

The goalkeeper’s Blucerchiati contract is set to expire at midnight after four years in Liguria, where he held the number one jersey in Samp’s 2011/12 promotion season but lost the custodianship to former Bologna keeper Emiliano Viviano.

Il Messaggero report the Giallorossi will wait until Argentina’s involvement in the Copa America comes to an end before discussing a deal with agent Mino Raiola; in fact, the 28-year-old almost joined the Romans when he signed for Sampdoria from AZ Alkmaar back in 2011.

The semi-final between Argentina and Paraguay takes place on Tuesday night and the tournament will end by the weekend after the final and third place play-off, Romero having been first-choice for La Abiceleste throughout the Copa America so far.
