Sinisa Mihajlovic SampdoriaAC Milan’s interest in appointing Sinisa Mihajlovic as Filippo Inzaghi’s successor appears to have been scuppered by the fact that the Serb tactician has failed to convince Rossoneri president Silvio Berlusconi that he is the man to rebuild the fallen giants.

Milan are searching for a fourth coach in two years following an extremely disappointing season under Inzaghi who could could only lead the club to a 10th place Serie A finish meaning they will miss out on European football for a second consecutive season.

Following Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to take a year out of football for health reasons, Mihajlovic had become one of the front runners for the position after leaving Sampdoria on Monday, but Sportmediaset reports that Berlusconi has rejected this idea during a summit at his Arcore villa.

The 78-year-old appears to favour Vincenzo Montella, but it remains to be seen whether he will leave Fiorentina, while other names under consideration include Seviila’s Unai Emery and Maurizio Sarri who has impressed with Empoli.
