Gianluigi Buffon ParmaJuventus captain Gianluigi Buffon has spoken out in support of his former club Parma following their recent demotion to Serie D.

Parma were declared legally bankrupt on June 22 2015 and were therefore officially banished to the amateur leagues for the forthcoming season after the club failed in their bid to find a buyer who could relieve them of their €75 million debt.

“Yesterday, the centennial history of Parma FC was ended,” said Buffon on his official Facebook page.

“I want to express once again my affection and the closeness that I feel with the colours of Parma.

“I cannot help but think back about the city and the fans, let’s hope that we will see the Ducali back in Serie A!”

He continued: “I love you and I will always carry you in my heart.”

“Goodbye Crociati… See you again soon!”

The 37-year-old began his youth career with the Ducali at the age of 13 in 1991 and remained with the club for another ten years before leaving for the Bianconeri in a record-breaking deal worth €51 million.
