Antonio Conte ItalyThe announcement of further questioning into the Calcioscommesse scandal of 2011/12 has come at a bad time for Italy coach Antonio Conte, who is expected to be called in for questioning by lead investigator Roberto di Martino.

Poor relations with the press and dispiriting performances on the pitch are currently saddling the Azzurri and with the latest investigations into the betting scandal, for which Conte as banned for four months in 2012 after failing to report betting fraud, some may call for the ex-Juventus coach to resign.

Tuesday’s announcement is that prosecutors have been handed three fresh investigations focusing on Conte regarding his actions while Serie B clubs committed fraud, leading to prosecutors calling for the immediate questioning of the 45-year-old.

While the outcome of this investigation is impossible to speculate on, it is being reported in Italy that the time consuming nature of the process will force Conte’s hand if he cannot be ready to take the team into the next set of Euro 2016 qualifiers in August.
