Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly rejected a return to AC Milan as a replacement for Filippo Inzaghi.

Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani recently visited the 55-year-old in Madrid, following his dismissial from Real Madrid, in an attempt to persuade him to rejoin Milan.

Now, according to Sky Sport Italia, after mulling over a reported salary of €4 million a season, plus €150m transfer budget, Ancelotti has declined Milan’s offer following another meeting with Galliani on Monday.

The club also released a statement on the matter: “Carlo Ancelotti will no be the new coach of the first team next season.”

It is thought the coach wants to take a break from football, as he is due to undergo a back operation.

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi recently claimed that he was sure Ancelotti would arrive at the Stadio Meazza this summer, though now it seems he will have to cast his eye elsewhere for a new coach.
