Chelsea are said to be readying a €40 million bid for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.
The 27-year-old’s future at the Stadio San Paolo has come under increased speculation of late, with coach Rafael Benitez departing the club, as well as a recent attack on the player by Napoli fans.
Napoli missed out on Champions League football after a 4-2 defeat to Lazio on Sunday, as Higuain missed a penalty that could have sent the Azzurri into Europe’s premier club competition.
According to the Daily Star, Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his frontline following Didier Drogba’s departure from Chelsea for a second time.
It is thought that the Blues are prepared to spend€40m on Higuain, allowing Napoli to recoup their initial outlay on the player they signed from Real Madrid in 2013.
Higuain has bagged 18 goals in 37 Serie A appearances this season.
